ORAL AND MAXILLOFACIAL SURGERY IN THE COMFORT OF YOUR DENTAL HOME

Our goal at Schaffer Dental Excellence is to accurately diagnose and treat functional and aesthetic conditions in the bone and soft tissue of the face, mouth, and jaws. Oral surgery can range from simple tooth extractions to bone grafting and dental implants. We offer oral, inhaled, and IV sedation dentistry options to ensure our patients are comfortable throughout their procedures.

Tooth Extractions

While we make every effort to save and restore natural teeth, there are times when the damage or decay are too extensive. Sometimes, baby teeth hang on longer than they should and impact the eruption of adult teeth. In these cases, the tooth may be removed.
Tooth Evaluation and Treatment in Caramel Valley

Wisdom Tooth Removal

Wisdom teeth cause problems for many people because there is simply not enough room for proper eruption. They often grow sideways, only partially emerge, or remain impacted. Serious issues arise as they continue to attempt to erupt. We recommend that our Carmel Valley patients are first evaluated in their teen years since early treatment prevents many complications.

Impacted Canines

The maxillary cuspid (canine) plays a major role in guiding your bite. Impacted canines are quite common, placing second to impacted wisdom teeth. Because of their role in your bite, your San Diego dentist will develop a treatment plan to foster eruption and proper placement of the cuspids.

Dental Implants

Dental implants are prosthetic teeth that look and feel like natural teeth. A biocompatible rod is anchored in the jaw bone, which promotes bone generation as it fuses in place. When completely healed, dental implants are often stronger than the natural teeth they replaced.

Bone Grafting

If teeth have been missing for some time, bone loss is common. Bone grafting allows potential implant sites to regrow bone. This provides the structure necessary for successful dental implant surgery to restore functionality and esthetic appearance.

Facial trauma often requires the skill of dental professionals like Dr. Schaffer to facilitate the best long-term outcomes for patients. Oral and maxillofacial surgery is one tool designed to manage and treat the physical and emotional aspects of facial trauma.
